How to Apply

In order to apply for a position with MAIA, we will ask for the following information from you:

  • Your contact information (name, pronouns, email, phone and address)

  • Your answers to the application questions for each position you would like to apply for. You can find these questions in the role outline document for each position and also in the application form itself.

  • Your CV or a document outlining your work history (paid and voluntary)

  • (Optional) If you are happy to share your demographic information (gender, age, ethnicity, religion), this will help us to see who we are reaching when we are recruiting.

The easiest way to provide us with the above information is to complete our application form (see below). This is a Google Form and it works best if you are logged in to Google when you open it, as this will allow you to go back and complete it at a later stage and also to attach your CV / Work History document to your application. You can still use it if you don’t have a Google account or prefer not to be logged in, but you may need to email your document separately.

However, if the application form is not accessible to you, then we can provide other ways for you to make an application and give us the information we require.

Please contact Laura Holmes on lh@maiagroup.co to arrange the best way to do this.

FAQ’s

Q&A session for interested applicants: We held a webinar on Weds 8th May from 6pm for anyone interested in one of our roles. Participants were able to submit questions before or during the session and we answered them on the call. The webinar was recorded and you can watch it back on the link below.

Q. Can I apply for more than one role?

A. Yes, you can apply for any roles where you feel that you have the skills and qualities needed - please see the role outline for each position which explains what these skills and qualities are. You can use our application form to apply for multiple positions, you do not need to fill it in multiple times.

Q. Where are the roles based?

MAIA does not have a traditional office base and most of our team work in a hybrid manner, though we meet regularly and hold events at our premises, YARD, in Ladywood, Birmingham. However, as our work is very much place based, we are trying to grow our team based locally. It is important that our new team members live within commuting distance of our premises and have a good understanding of the communities we work with in our local area.

Q. How do you decide who to interview?

Three members of our team are involved in shortlisting. We randomise and anonymise the answers to each application question before we review them and agree a scoring system - we then go away and score each answer independently. We bring our scores together and pull out the 10 highest scoring applications before looking at their answers together with their CV / Work History to decide which to invite to interview.

Q. I am a Deaf person / Disabled person / identify as neurodivergent, what support can you offer to make this process accessible for me?

We can offer alternative ways to submit your application - please contact Laura on lh@maiagroup.co to discuss this.

MAIA is a Disability Confident organisation and we will offer an interview to any Disabled applicants who meet the minimum criteria for our roles. We will discuss any access needs with you when planning the interviews and there is space on our application form to let us know of any specific requirements.

We provide interview tasks and questions to all shortlisted candidates at least one week in advance of the interviews to enable time to prepare.

For those candidates who are appointed to the roles, we offer a review meeting with a specialist Access Worker and encourage the use of the Government Access to Work scheme wherever possible. We understand that individual access needs change across time and depending on their circumstances, so access support requirements are regularly reviewed through supervision and wellbeing conversations.

Q. Are these opportunities only open to Black people?

MAIA is a Black-led organisation that centres Black lived experience, imagination, creativity and intellectual thought in our work towards emancipation from systems of oppression. However, we have a diverse team committed to Black liberation and welcome anyone that understands that our liberation struggles are all connected. ‘No one of us are free until we are all free’ - Maya Angelou.

Q. Are you set up for work visas?

Unfortunately we are not currently in a position to register to sponsor work visas as we are a small organisation.
